Living with a severe nut allergy means that a routine shop, restaurant meal or simple treat can carry anxiety, calculation and disappointment. Too often, the burden of making sense of unclear information falls almost entirely on the person at risk.

Why the campaign exists

There is a particular moment many people recognise: asking a clear allergy question, seeing the uncertainty on someone’s face and being handed a device or dense matrix to work through while a queue builds behind you. Sometimes the answer is simply, “I don’t know.” Confidence disappears immediately.

Nothing Left to Guess exists to press for information that is accurate, accessible and supported by people who know how to help. We want to recognise good practice, identify avoidable gaps and make the everyday food journey safer and more dignified.

01

Clarity

Use plain language, distinguish separate allergens and explain the limits of the information.

02

Evidence

Link factual claims to current official guidance or clearly identified evidence.

03

Fairness

Challenge systems constructively and give organisations a meaningful right to reply.

04

Lived experience

Listen to the real moments where technically available information still fails people.

Our editorial standards

  • Official sources first.UK legal and public-health information is grounded in sources such as the Food Standards Agency, Food Standards Scotland, GOV.UK, legislation.gov.uk and the NHS.
  • Visible review dates.Guides state when they were checked. Significant changes to guidance trigger a content review.
  • Requirements and best practice separated. We avoid presenting a recommendation as though it were a legal duty.
  • No diagnosis or individual treatment advice.Medical decisions belong with qualified clinicians and each person’s prescribed allergy plan.
  • Evidence before scoring.Organisations are not ranked on assumptions. Findings must be reproducible, dated and open to response.
  • Corrections welcomed. If something is inaccurate or has changed, we invite evidence and will correct material errors transparently.

The campaign’s purpose comes before promotion.

Nothing Left to Guess is independent. If future funding, partnerships or relevant relationships could affect how readers view a page or scorecard finding, they will be declared clearly.
